The Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 is the inaugural MPV model under GAC Trumpchi's "Xiangwang" new energy vehicle lineup, positioned as a mid-to-large premium intelligent plug-in hybrid MPV. The vehicle first debuted in May 2025 with the launch of the Qiankun Series, followed by the rollout of the HarmonyOS Cockpit Edition, Master Edition, and subsequent variants. In October 2025, the Xiangwang M8 Master was officially introduced. On 11 June 2026, the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 PHEV L and the all-new Xiangwang E8 PHEV were launched simultaneously at GAC Trumpchi's inaugural User Conference & MPV Night. The lineup currently offers over 10 variants on sale, with overall prices ranging from RM269,900 to RM409,900. Among them, the Xiangwang M8 PHEV L is available in three variants—Pro, 4WD Max, and 4WD Ultra—priced between RM268,800 and RM309,800, while the 2026 Xiangwang M8 (annual facelift) retails from RM309,900 to RM389,900. Key segment rivals include plug-in hybrid MPVs such as the Buick GL8 Luzun PHEV, VOYAH Dreamer PHEV, and Denza D9 DM.

Design Language

The Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 adopts the "Supreme Kirin" signature family design language, seamlessly incorporating the oriental aesthetic of "hidden edge in gentleness". The front fascia features an expansive dot-matrix grille accented with horizontal diamond-patterned chrome trim, creating a distinct 3D texture reminiscent of Kirin scales under varying light. The edges of the grille merge seamlessly into the "7"-shaped matrix LED headlights, delivering an imposing front profile. High-spec variants feature smart welcome projection lighting, offering four debut lighting themes—"Jade Kirin", "Lotus Steps", "Prosperity Over Mountains and Rivers", and "Deer Calls"—alongside customisable welcome light sequences. The side profile features clean, horizontal body lines, complemented by dual power sliding doors with concealed guide tracks. At the rear, full-width LED taillights extend downwards at both ends, echoing the front-end styling.

In terms of dimensions, the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 measures between 5,212 mm and 5,264 mm in length, 1,893 mm and 1,898 mm in width, and 1,823 mm and 1,848 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3,070 mm. The HarmonyOS Cockpit Edition measures 5,217 mm in length, while the PHEV L variant gains 52 mm in length to 5,264 mm and increases in height to 1,848 mm. The entire range comes with a 2+2+3 seven-seater layout. The cabin features a wraparound architecture finished in a two-tone dark-over-light scheme, extensive Nappa leather upholstery, and intricate details inspired by Cantonese embroidery intangible cultural heritage backstitch craftsmanship. The Master Edition offers an exclusive "Jockey Club Manor" reddish-brown interior theme.

Powertrain & Performance

The Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 offers two plug-in hybrid powertrain options. The 2.0T PHEV system powers the Qiankun Series, Master Edition, and 2026 models, pairing a 2.0T engine with an electric motor to generate a combined maximum output of 300 kW and a peak torque of 645 N·m, paired with a 2-speed DHT gearbox. The 1.5T PHEV system powers the PHEV L variants, featuring GAC's new-generation Xingyuan plug-in hybrid technology alongside the GMC 3.0 Thunder Edition transmission. The engine produces 125 kW and 245 N·m of torque. The 2WD version's electric motor outputs 205 kW and 360 N·m, while the 4WD version's electric motors produce a total of 285 kW and 525 N·m, resulting in a system combined output of 410 kW and 770 N·m. The 4WD model completes the 0-100 km/h sprint in 6.17 seconds.

In terms of range, 2.0T variants are equipped with a 44.5 kWh ternary lithium battery pack (CATL Xiaoyao super hybrid battery), delivering a CLTC pure electric range of 248 km and a WLTC combined range of 1,177 km. PHEV L variants are fitted with a 44.57 kWh ternary lithium battery, offering a CLTC pure electric range of 248 km for the 2WD model and 235 km for the 4WD model, with an overall combined range exceeding 1,300 km. On DC fast charging, a 30% to 80% SoC top-up takes just 14 to 15 minutes. The Master Edition features a 25.5 kWh Magazine Battery, offering a CLTC pure electric range of 136 km and a combined total range exceeding 1,400 km on a full tank and charge. Its WLTC fuel consumption in charge-sustaining mode is 6.05 L/100 km. A 6 kW Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power supply function is standard across the entire range.

Chassis & Handling

The Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 employs a front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout (with an AWD option on PHEV L variants). Its suspension configuration comprises a front MacPherson strut independent suspension and a rear multi-link independent suspension. PHEV L variants are fitted with a dual-valve SDC adaptive electromagnetic suspension and an omni-sensory smart anti-motion-sickness system, significantly enhancing passenger ride comfort. Steering is managed by an electric power steering (EPS) system. It rides on 235/60 R18 tyres, with a kerb weight of around 2,570 kg. The chassis setup strikes a well-judged balance between executive ride poise and family travel comfort.

Cabin & Features

In terms of infotainment and smart cabin technology, the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 offers two operating systems: HarmonySpace 5 and ADiGO 6.0. The 2026 models come standard with HarmonySpace 5, supporting seamless multi-screen interaction across seven displays, including a 17.3-inch 3K ultra-clear ceiling-mounted rear entertainment screen; the voice assistant supports rapid "one-sentence execution" and links directly with smart home devices. For seating, the second row features Five-Star SPA Dual Zero-Gravity Seats with an integrated 24-point full-body SPA massage system, combining neck-and-shoulder graphene thermal therapy, lumbar mechanical massage, and calf pulse massage functions. The third-row seats come with power adjustment. Premium amenities include 16-point massage for the front seats (adjusted to 10 points on 2026 models), front seat ventilation/heating, an on-board refrigerator, a draught-free multi-zone climate control system with over 1,600 micro-vents, and a 20-speaker sound system. The boot features a 90L sunken sub-trunk storage area with a tri-fold luggage board, accommodating eight 20-inch suitcases even with seven passengers on board, and expanding up to a maximum cargo capacity of 1,786 litres.

Safety & Driver Assistance

In terms of passive safety, the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 is built on an "eight longitudinal and nineteen transverse" armoured cage body structure, with high-strength steel accounting for up to 85.6% of the frame. It comes equipped with a 360-degree wraparound airbag matrix featuring seven airbags, including a 3.2-metre one-piece side curtain airbag to safeguard occupants across all three rows. The battery packs—either CATL Xiaoyao or Magazine Battery units—feature high thermal stability and enhanced safety ratings.

For advanced driver assistance, the Trumpchi Xiangwang M8 offers two intelligent driving suites: Huawei Qiankun and Momenta. The Qiankun Series features the Huawei Qiankun ADS 4 system supported by 29 perception sensors, including a 192-line LiDAR. The PHEV L variants come standard with the Momenta intelligent driving system, supporting highway/urban Navigation Driving Assist (NDA) and all-scenario automated parking. High-spec 2026 models are powered by the NVIDIA Orin-X computing platform.

Market Performance & Reception

Cumulative sales of GAC Trumpchi's MPV family have surpassed 800,000 units, with the M8 series accounting for over 450,000 units, making it the top-selling luxury MPV model among Chinese domestic brands. The Trumpchi M8 has consistently led industry benchmarks across sales volume, build quality, and residual value. Following the launch of the Xiangwang M8 Master in October 2025, the entry price dropped from RM329,900 to RM269,900, significantly lowering the barrier to ownership. Motoring media note that with its "Supreme Kirin" styling, HarmonySpace / ADiGO 6.0 intelligent cockpits, SPA zero-gravity seating, and advanced ADAS suites from Huawei and Momenta, the Xiangwang M8 delivers strong differentiated appeal in the RM250,000 to RM400,000 plug-in hybrid MPV segment. Its competitive efficiency figures—delivering up to 248 km of pure electric range, over 1,300 km of combined range, and a 6.17-second 0-100 km/h acceleration time—place it at the top end of its class. Serving as a flagship pillar for GAC Trumpchi in the electrified era, the Xiangwang M8 leverages its "premium quality and long range" ethos to solidify the brand's positioning as "China's Intelligent MPV Specialist".
